Government have decided that under no circumstances, the word 'Harijan' should be used in any allowed matters dealing certificates etc., or in any manner whatsoever by any department in Government or by any official. Instead, the word 'Scheduled Caste' should invariably be used.
2. All the departments are hereby requested to take necessary action for removal of the 'Harijan' wherever existing the textbooks, official documents, Government offices, on the school/institution buildings, application forms etc., and instead the word 'Scheduled Caste' be used.
3. Government view that any violation of these instructions would be dealt with severely. All the heads of the Departments, District collectors are requested to communicate the decision of the Government in this regard to all the subordinate offices for strict implementation.
